NPLACE Offers a Variety of DII COE Services

Link to COE Web site    The Defense Information Infrastructure Common Operating Environment (DII COE) is an interoperability framework administered by the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA).

NPLACE supports the US Air Force and DoD with development, testing, and evaluation of software to support the COE. These efforts include development of:

•  Software development guidelines

•  Software reuse strategies and a repository of reusable software

•  A registration process to certify compliance

•  Kernel software for use on workstations to support interoperability and reuse of standard software segment types.

During the last four years, NPLACE has conducted evaluations of software segments from major DoD C4I systems to ensure they meet COE compliance

standards. NPLACE continues to evaluate segments against COE standards.

NPLACE has recently begun supporting the COE kernel software by successfully porting the Windows 2000 kernel to the Windows XP family of operating systems.

NPLACE also reviews kernel installation/use documentation and conducts beta testing on new versions of the kernel. The Air Force has also tasked NPLACE to develop a platform-independent, commercial-software-based kernel to maximize interoperability and reduce kernel development/maintenance costs.

As the progression toward NCW continues, the COE will evolve and integrate with Network Centric standards to ensure systems can easily share information and developers can fabricate new interoperable systems with less time and effort.

NPLACE will support the evolution of COE well into the next decade and beyond.

The sophisticated NPLACE COE Evaluation process ensures the compliance of all products tested.
